The San Diego County District Attorney’s won’t continue to press charges against San Diego Chargers LB Shawne Merriman. Merriman was arrested after he allegedly secually assaulted his girlfriend, reality TV star Tila Tequila.

The District Attorney’s Office released this statement:

“After a thorough review of the investigation into the September 6th, 2009 incident at the Poway home of Shawne Merriman, our office has determined there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime was committed. This case is now closed. No further comment will be made.”

Hopefully Shawne won’t be facing the wrath of NFL commishioner Roger Goodell, who’s been known to hand out punishments. Charger fans are praying Shawne isn’t distracted by this for the rest of the season. He’s going to have to play a huge role this season if they want to make the playoffs and move beyond the first round.
