With week 4 over it’s time to start preparing your fantasy football team for week 5. If you’re off to a bad start, no worries. This is the week you can turn it around. Here’s a look at some of the players you should try to pick up on waivers this week.
Remember these are these are the teams with week 5 bye weeks: Bears, Packers, Saints, Chargers.
QUARTERBACKS
Derek Anderson - Obviously don’t go dropping Peyton Manning to pick him up, but if you’re desperate for a starting quarterback go ahead and put in the waiver claim for Anderson. With the horrible Browns’ defense, Anderson will have to air it out 40+ times a game. He’s bound to get at least one touchdown a week with that many pass attempts.
RUNNING BACKS
Rashard Mendenhall - He would be our number one pickup this week if he’s still available. He tore it up against the Chargers on Sunday night while Willie Parker was on the sidelines. He won’t get 29 carries a game once Parker gets back, but his performance definitely earned him his fair share of carries.
Jerome Harrison - He’s a must own in PPR leagues and after he racked up 121 yards on the ground against the Bengals he’s worth picking up in other formats too.
Michael Bush/Justin Fargas - Grab whichever one is available in your league. Yesterday news broke that Darren McFadden will miss the next 2-4 weeks with a torn meniscus, which means both Bush and Fargas will see an awful lot of carries. Make the roster room!
WIDE RECEIVERS
Mohamed Massaquoi - This Browns receiver established himself as Derek Anderson’s favorite target. On Sunday he hauled in 8 passes for 148 yards for an average of 18.5 yards per reception! He’s a must own in every single league.
Deion Branch - Yes, Branch is still playing football. And now that he’s finally getting healthy he may be worth picking up. He caught all 6 passes that were thrown his way on Sunday and since the Seahawks will be playing from behind for most of the season, I’m assuming he’ll be targeted more and more each week.
TIGHT ENDS
Jermichael Finley - If you need a tight end, Finley is a worthy pickup. He led the Packers in receiving on Monday night with 6 catches for 128 yards and one touchdown.
