It’s that time again! Due to all the previous success my first article had, especially being posted on USA Today, I decided it was necessary to continue with the “Soap Opera” segment. Part I consisted of Tony Romo, Chad Ochocinco, Mike Vick, Brett Favre, and Tom Brady. With those five players covered, it’s time to look elsewhere for “The Next Soap Opera Star In the NFL”, and I’m sure you will enjoy these five players.

Braylon Edwards

Reason: It’s quite simple, he messed with LeBron James, or as Cleveland refers to him, The King.
Possible Storyline: Edwards cannot find success with the crumbling franchise known as the Cleveland Browns. With no touchdown receptions in 2009, Edwards has had it, and decides it’s time to get out of town. So what does he do? He attends a Cleveland nightclub, and after having a few drinks, he encounters another Edwards Givens. Obviously, Braylon doesn’t appreciate Givens, and decides to throw a punch at him. OH NO! What Braylon didn’t know was that Mr. Givens is BFF’s with none other then the King of Cleveland, Lebron James. Pack your bags Braylon, your off to New York.
The Suspense: Did Braylon Edwards know that Mr. Givens was close with LeBron, and is that why he decided to punch him? Is he jealous off the King James? and Can Braylon turn his career around in the Big Apple?
Shawne Merriman

Reason: Tila Tequila could give you a thousand reasons, but I’ll give you one: He’s a mess.
Possible Storyline: Shawne Merriman has had his career tumble after being suspended for taking HGH, and has tried all he could to replace his old image. But as his game play is falling apart, Merriman begins to become frustrated. Besides taking his anger out on the field, Merriman unleashes his rage at reality TV star, Tila Tequilla. With accusations that Merriman choked and restrained Tila Tequila outside his home, Merriman has all but destroyed any positive image he may have had.
The Suspense: Did Merriman really choke Tila Tequilla? and Has Merriman turned the “lights off” on his previous success in the NFL?
Chad Pennington

Reason: When your best friend is Dr. James Andrews, there’s something wrong with you.
Possible Storyline: Pennington has rejuvenated his NFL career in Miami, but it all falls apart after he suffers another injury to his shoulder, forcing him to once again need surgery. With his NFL career in question, Pennington turns to the most publicized doctor in America, Dr. James Andrews. With successful surgery, the question remaining is if he will be able to suit up on Sundays, or will he be wearing a suit on NFL Countdown.
The Suspense: Can Pennington’s shoulder hold up for another season? Why is Dr. James Andrews the “man to go to” when surgery is needed? and Is Chad Henne the future in Miami?
Michael Crabtree

Reason: He considered himself the best at his position before he even stepped on the field, sounds pretty arrogant to me.
Possible Storyline: His agent, also his cousin, has brainwashed Crabtree into thinking he deserves more money then the 5th pick, Darrius Heyward-Bey. So without knowing any better, Crabtree says he will enter himself in the 2010 NFL Draft, and due to this, he misses all of training camp and the early part of the NFL season. But realizing his poor decision making, Crabtree signs a contract, and can finally begin his NFL career. As for his agent, he should just retire now and avoid further embarrassment.
The Suspense: How will Crabtree’s absence in training camp and the first few weeks affect the team and himself? Will Crabtree have a better career then the rest of the 2009 rookie Wide Receivers? and What is Crabtree’s agents IQ?
Mark Sanchez

Reason: He’s referred to as the “Next Joe Namath”, if that’s not TV worthy, than I don’t know what is.
Possible Storyline: After leaving USC early, and causing Pete Carroll to almost break out in tears after hearing that his Quarterback is leaving, Sanchez is off to bigger and better things. With so much hype surrounding the young QB, Sanchez never falters under pressure, and carries the entire Big Apple on his shoulders. With all the attention focused on him, Sanchez leads the Jets over the dynasty itself, the New England Patriots, and gives fans a glimpse of the future.
The Suspense: With all his rookie success, is Sanchez going to fall under the “Sophomore Slump”? How can a kid so young handle all the pressure of playing on Broadway? and Is Mark Sanchez really the next Joe Namath?
