Quite honestly, we all knew what was going to happen in St. Louis today. The Rams are beyond awful, and the Indianapolis Colts are beyond awesome. So it was just a matter of time before the Colts went out and picked up their sixth victory in as many games, and kept the Rams winless. I predicted a 38-13 final, but it simply wasn’t that close, as the Colts made it a 42-6 final.

Let’s take a look back at today’s game:

HOW THE COLTS WON

Once again, the passing game was spectacular, but the defense was pretty impressive as well. Peyton Manning had his usual three touchdown day, and though he didn’t reach 300 yards for the game (finished with 235), he was still in control of the entire game. The defense forced two interceptions on the day, and never allowed the Rams to get anything going offensively.

BRIGHT SPOTS

The entire receiving crew looked great as usual, with Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie, and Dallas Clark all catching TD passes from Manning. Joseph Addai also had a nice game running the football, and scored a touchdown in the process. Donald Brown only had two carries, but racked up 58 yards for another impressive performance from the rookie.

Bob Sanders made his season debut, and only had one tackle, but just seeing him out there is a bright spot in my opinion. The rest of the secondary looked fabulous though, as Jacob Lacey returned an interception for a touchdown, and Kelvin Hayden also picked up an INT.

Matt Stover was perfect in his Colts’ debut, though all he had to do was kick six extra points.

AREAS OF CONCERN

Yeah, I don’t really know what to put here. The Colts were in control from start to finish, and there were simply no glaring problems that stood out. Yes, Steven Jackson rushed for 134 yards, so maybe the rushing defense is a concern again. But in a 42-6 win, that had no effect on the outcome.

Maybe I should be concerned that the Colts didn’t beat them by more than 36. Heck, I don’t know.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Jacob Lacey

I get tired of giving it to Manning week in and week out, so we’ll give it to Lacey this week for the INT return for a score. The Rams were technically still in the ballgame at that point in the third quarter, as they only trailed 21-6. But Lacey erased any choice for a comeback with the pick six.

All in all, another great day for the Colts, as they made it look easy once again. I thought we may see some rust coming off the bye week, but that didn’t happen. They are still in the groove, and now they’ll turn their attention to the San Francisco 49ers, who lost to the Houston Texans today.
