A few years ago you may remember former Kansas City Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil advising his young running back Larry Johnson to take his diapers off if he wants to be a quality NFL player. Well, all these years later and Johnson is still rockin’ his diaper for the whole world to see. After Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, Johnson called the media “fags” and refused interviews, then he decided to attack his head coach Todd Haley on Twitter.
“My father got more creditentials than most of these pro coaches.” Johnson posted on his Twitter account. “My father played for the coach from “rememeber the titans”. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn.”
While I agree that Haley sure doesn’t seem like a very good head coach, as a player you can’t come out and publicly criticize him. Leave that job for my fellow bloggers and I. Obviously, Johnson is hoping his comments will force the team to release him so he can sign with a Super Bowl contender. He probably thinks the Patriots would be interested in signing him as their next Corey Dillon project.
On Tuesday, Haley responded to Johnson’s hateful tweets.
“I’m very proud of what I’ve done to get to where I am,” he said. “I’m very proud of my results as a position coach, as a coordinator. Right now, am I proud of my head coaching record? No. But I intend to do everything I can to change that.”
Haley’s success as a position coach is sort of misleading. Don’t forget he had Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin when he was the offensive coordinator for the Cardinals last year. Heck, even a blind person could run a successful offense with all of those weapons. But since this is Haley’s first year with the Chiefs, he knows he’s not going to get fired this season. However, he’ll need to show significant improvement next year if he wants to continue being a head coach in the National Football League.
