It’s been two weeks in a row now that the New England Patriots have completely dominated their opponents at every phase of the game, which makes it really hard to update last week’s grades when I gave them an A+ across the board. However, I did give them slight downgrade this week. Find out why and where after the jump.
OFFENSE: B

SPECIAL TEAMS: A+

OVERALL: A-

As stated earlier there’s not a lot of changes to this week’s report card, but I’m sure you’ll notice a slight downgrade to the offense. I know what your wondering, “How could you downgrade an offense that put 35 points on the board?” First of all, it’s important to realize they beat up on the Bucs who had the worst rushing defense coming into the game, yet the Patriots only managed to gain 107 yards on the ground.
Their passing game may be good enough to beat teams like the Titans and the Bucs, but if they can’t establish an effective running game they’ll have a very hard time moving the ball against good defenses. Hopefully things will change when/if Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor return to the lineup, but Laurence Maroney can’t get the job done.
Other than the lack of running game the Patriots were very dominate at all phases of the game, offensively, defensively and on special teams. It’s just too bad they can’t play the Bucs and Titans every week.
