When the Eagles’ Ellis Hobbs began experiencing pain in his neck during last week’s loss to the Cowboys, staff didn’t feel the injury was going to be a large issue and that it would disappear throughout the next week or so. However, the backup Cornerback and explosive special teams star was evidently more hurt than initially thought, for the organization officially placed him on the Injured Reserve list today, ending his 2009 season. This marks the 6th Eagle to be placed on the list, something the team probably didn’t anticipate or want heading into the year.

Hobbs (pictured), who was acquired in the offseason on Draft-day in a trade with the New England Patriots, had recorded 11 tackles and averaged 24.1 yards a kick return through the Eagles’ first eight games, and although not a statistical standout, the veteran was a solid contributor to situational plays and occasional special teams highlights. His injury has not been dubbed an official term, but it is believed the defensive back sustained an odd stretch of muscles located in his neck and is uncomfortable playing with the pain it is implying.

Because of the loss of Hobbs, the Eagles decided to make another Cornerback their replacement signing to the active roster, in 3rd-year player Ramzee Robinson. The 7th-round Draft selection of the Detroit Lions in 2007 has not played with any club this season, but finished his 2-year stint with the Lions with 24 tackles and a pass deflection. He has fought to stay in the league, as many regard him with little value because he was the final player picked in his draft class, but still has a decent amount of potential. Already listed as wearing number 28 for the Birds, Robinson is expected to play this Sunday as a backup/special teams performer as Hobbs did (minus the kick returning aspect; FS Quintin Demps has already been thrust into that role).
