…..To look ahead to April’s draft
If you are a fan of a team who missed out on the postseason, never fear, the 24/7/365 world of the NFL never stops spinning. At least with the year now concluded for the bottom twenty teams in the league the draft order is set in stone for the top choices this April.
We’ll start as always at the top (or should we say) bottom of the totem pole with the league’s worst performing team from the opening snap to the final gun week 17. Currently on the clock as we speak is the St. Louis Rams whose abysmal season mercifully came to a close Sunday at 1-15. For the Rams, there are plenty of places to look for holes as their only steady performer all season was Steven Jackson who was phenomenal considering the lack of holes he saw to run through this year. Building around a rushing attack is a nice luxury to have for a team that is basically starting from scratch.
Consensus opinion is divided on whether St. Louis will address their defensive line with Nebraska Cornhuskers sensation Ndamukong Suh or go for the sexy pick with a signal caller like Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s Jimmy Clausen or the Oklahoma Sooners Sam Bradford. Bradford and Clausen both present the potential homerun quality, but they are also both possible strikeouts. If the Rams are really looking to build a solid core, a boy named Suh will be the pick when Roger Goodell steps to the podium.
Granted, the Suh pick does seem a bit redundant, but I really don’t see any other worthy candidates if they stay put. It’s traditionally very difficult to trade out of the top choice in the draft especially in a potentially uncapped year.
Suh is just THAT good though. He’s one of those once in a million defensive tackles that will dominate anyone he lines up against.
Though this quarterback draft is pretty deep when you look at it. Though they won’t all be gems you have Jimmy Clausen, Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, and Jevon Snead who its possible 2 or 3 of those guys could drop to the 2nd round.
St. Louis’s defense was horrendous this year and I think that is what they need to concentrate on. Though I think the moving down in the draft and then you could possibly get a couple of guys to make their team better.

Suh? I really think the best move is to trade down and get the most help they can. They’ve drafted two first round defensive lineman in the past few years (Chris Long and Adam Carriker).
