Here at BlitzNation, I’m going to recap the season of all 32 teams in 32 days. I’m starting with the team with the worst record and my last post will be the team with the best record. I’ll be looking mostly at their expectations to their actual success and let you know how I think they will do next year.

Today I look at the 4-12 Washington Reskins. Though, to give them some credit they are in the best division in the NFC in my opinion.

Preseason Expectations
Going into the season, many people expected the Redskins to finish middle of the pack. Even though everyone thought they would finish good, most everyone picked them to be last in the NFC East. You can’t make the playoffs when you are 4th place in your division.

The biggest mistake they made this offseason was cutting both Shawn Springs and Jason Taylor just to be able to sign Albert Haynesworth to a 7 year 100 million dollar contract. That is overpaying a player who has been plagued by injuries the last couple of years.

Season
1- WAS 17 @ NYG 23
2- STL 7 @ WAS 9
3- WAS 14 @ DET 19
4- TB 13 @ WAS 16
5- WAS 17 @ CAR 20
6- KC 14 @ WAS 6
7- PHI 27 @ WAS 17
9- WAS 17 @ ATL 31
10- DEN 17 @ WAS 27
11- WAS 6 @ DAL 7
12- WAS 24 @ PHI 27
13- NO 33 @ WAS 30
14- WAS 34 @ OAK 13
15- NYG 45 @ WAS 12
16- DAL 17 @ WAS 0
17- WAS 20 @ SD 23

The Redskins had a terrible 1st six games even though they had one of the weakest schedules when it came to that. However, Jason Campbell had his best season with an 86.4 quarterback rating and almost doubled his touchdowns from last year.

Outlook for Next Season

The Redskins’ defense looked good this season, despite the losses they took. They have also hired a great coach in Mike Shanahan. With Shanahan at head coach this offense is most likely going to improve dramatically.

One thing that many people may not notice, is Clinton Portis had some of his best years under the direction of Mike Shanahan and you can expect that to continue.

I fully expect the Redskins to draft an offensive linemen in this draft and I’d like to see them take left tackle, Russell Okung out of Oklahoma State. He’s a good balanced run blocker and pass blocker which can only help their offense.

If things pan out for the Redskins they could be a playoff team again in two years. I don’t think its possible to turn around that much by next year and considering they have to play the AFC South (the division with the best record this year) next year, they won’t get over 7 wins.

Previous Teams
1. St. Louis Rams
2. Detroit Lions
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
