Though there remains a disappointing feeling around Philadelphia following the Eagles’ playoff loss to Dallas, the Birds had one of their players receive recognition from the Sporting News‘ annual All-Pro listings. The widely-known NFL magazine network has released compilations of the best players in the league since 1980, and it has since become quite an honor to players mentioned in the “All-Pro teams”. To some, being named an All-Pro is as good as receiving a Pro-Bowl appearance, and K David Akers was among those in this year’s edition.

Akers (pictured) bounced back from 2008 season that ended with a bit of a sour taste considering he missed an extra point and field goal in the NFC Championship game, and wound up having a career campaign this year. He nearly matched his career total of field goal conversions, tied his own franchise record of consecutive 3-point kicks made, received the Special Teams Player of the Month award for November, and earned his 4th Pro-Bowl selection while making himself the team’s all-time leader in points scored.

Congratulations to David Akers for his astounding performance this past season and this special award he received because of it!
