The segment, “Prospect Guide”, will breakdown a specific NFL Draft prospect, and will give you a better understanding of what this prospect could possibly turn out to be. Each one will focus on one player, in no specific order, which will lead all the way up to the 2010 NFL Draft. The first prospect that will be covered is Texas Linebacker, Sergio Kindle.

Career Statistics
Tackles: 148
Fumbles Forced: 1
Sacks: 16

Kindle lined up as a Defensive End while at Texas, but because of his smaller size (6′4″, 255lbs), Kindle will be an ideal Outside Linebacker. He will be best utilized in a 3-4 defensive scheme, due to the fact that he has the speed to match up with receivers. He does a great job of getting his hands up to deflect passes or cause the Quarterback to adjust his arm motion. Kindle can cover the flats very well, which will also help him transition to an Outside Linebacker.

The biggest assest he has is his pass rush. As I mentioned before, he has freakish speed that gives him a great jump off the line. He will beat most tackles off the ball, and this will give him an edge in the eyes of NFL scouts because he has the potential to be a DeMarcus Ware clone.

Now for someone so quick, you wouldn’t expect them to be as good of a tackler as you would like in a Linebacker. But for Kindle, he is a violent hitter. He gets to the ball carrier so fast that when he makes contact with them, it’s like a freight train coming at you. His long wingspan gives him an advantage at stopping the ball carrier and ripping at the ball.

Great assessment of Kindle’s pro potential. Personally I feel like he needs to improve his tackling in open field to make a successful transition to 3-4 OLB at the next level, but he will be drafted mostly based on potential in the middle of round one most likely.

Thanks, yeah I agree. He can improve his open field tackling, but his potential is one of the highest in the draft.
