Following Garrett Hartley’s heroic 40-yard, game-winning, overtime field goal, we are finally set for the most anticipated game of the calendar year; the Super Bowl.

This season we are in for an extra special treat, as the two teams who have led the pack for nearly the entire season will face each other to settle the debate of who is number one. The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints each possess a high-powered, pass-heavy attack that can give defensive coordinators headaches all game long, which means a ton of fireworks and a bunch of crooked numbers on the scoreboard.

On one side you have Peyton Manning, who is arguably the best quarterback to ever play the game. He is possibly having his most impressive season as a pro, as he has had to deal with the loss of his favorite target, Marvin Harrison, and he has had to play under a new head coach in Jim Caldwell. In addition, Manning lost one of his top receivers, for the entire season, early on, in Anthony Gonzalez. Oh, and let’s not forget Indy’s 32nd-ranked rushing attack. Despite defenses knowing that Manning will be throwing the ball, he still had his highest completion percentage of his remarkable 12-year career. Yet through all of that adversity, Manning has remained calm, cool, collected, and all about business right from the first snap of the season.

On the other side you have Drew Brees, who is as close to Manning as anyone else in the league at the quarterback position, and can explode for a 6 touchdown performance in any given game. Brees’ 6-foot frame would lead many to believe that his abilities could be limited, especially at a position where field vision is second to none. But what Brees lacks in height, he makes up for with his heart and unmatched leadership. When you watch Brees rally his teammates prior to a game, you cannot help but root for this guy. He personally wants to win so much, but he wants to win for his team and the city of New Orleans even more. He realizes that winning is meaningless unless he has the people to share it with, and that attitude is evident as he leads this team on offense. On any given week, Brees can find a new go-to receiver, and he will always find a way to get the entire team involved. He is everything a great leader should be, and that is why he is team will be representing the NFC in the Super Bowl this season.

Whether you are a Colts fan, Saints fan, Manning fan, Brees fan, or don’t really root for anyone involved in this game, there is no doubt that, as a football fan, you are excited to watch this Super Bowl take place. There has not been such a closely-matched Super Bowl in quite a while, and all football fans are anxious to see how this game will play out. There are so many possible ways that this game can unfold, and it would be interesting to see any of those scenarios happen. All I know is that we truly lucked out this season, and we are going to witness one of the best Super Bowl’s of all-time.
