So I was watching NFL Network this morning (as is required of me to go along with my morning coffee) and they started the 6 month long discussion of whether or not Brett Favre was going to retire. I know, I am super excited to talk about this again too. Well Deion Sanders chimed in that Favre told somebody after the game that most likely going to retire. Now maybe Neon Deion was being facetious or maybe he was just making fun, but he seemed really serious that Favre was telling the truth. Well Ed Reed also told reporters right after his team lost that he was “50-50″ about retiring.

The emotion of losing a game on such a grand stage is overpowering, and in their passion a lot of players often speak without thinking (though some may argue they do that almost exclusively. Jared Allen). Brett Favre is due more than 13 million dollars to play for Minnesota next year, and with his team primed as a Super Bowl favorite next year, it would behoove him to at least try one more year. It’s not like Favre didn’t have a good year. Statistically it was his best season. Ever. 19 season and a first ballot Hall of Fame bid and this was his best year. That’s extraordinary. No doubt we’ll hear about this for months to come and that’s fine, but for Mr. Sanders to say for certain that Favre knows what he’s doing for next season is absurd at best, and downright dumb at worst.
