The national newspaper USA Today released a commemorative piece recently detailing the past decade of the NFL, its memorable moments, and voting results for the top head coach of the 2000s, and the Eagles were a part of it. Although the New England Patriots‘ Bill Belichick was named the best coach of the decade, Philly’s Andy Reid finished 3rd in the voting, tying with legendary Steelers skipper Bill Cowher.
In this decade of NFL seasons (2000-2009), Reid (pictured) has compiled 103 regular season wins (giving him a .648 winning percentage), as well as a remarkable 10 postseason victories. The newspaper, besides giving him the title of 3rd-best coach of the decade, said this about Reid:
“After taking over a 3-13 team in 1999, Reid has turned the Eagles into one of the NFL’s elite teams. Reid has been named NFL coach of the year twice, and compiled the best win total (108), winning percentage (.617), and playoff victory total (10) in Eagles history. He has won five division titles, gotten his team to the NFC championship game five times and the Super Bowl once. Among coaches with 100 games under their belt, Reid’s winning percentage is second among active coaches, behind Belichick.”
