And let the drama continue in Denver. The Broncos had a great start to the season, but now face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, in a game that they have to win to have any shot at the playoffs. This Sunday, there’s a lot on the line for several NFL teams. A win could be the difference between a shot at the Super Bowl, and a shot at playing golf next weekend. Despite the Gators playing in one of the top bowls, the season can somewhat be called a failure. Well, maybe calling it a ‘failure’ is too much, how about underachieving. The Gators practically returned their whole team from their National Championship season in 2008, which should have given them yet another birth in the BCS National Championship game. But along came then #2 Alabama, and the undefeated season went down the drains, as well as their chance to repeat as champions. Only hours ago, at least in the area where most NFL and Eagle fans reside, the new year and decade were welcomed in with the sound of roaring cheers and celebration around the world, which obviously occurred at various times because of global time alterations. I know that we normally pick five NFL games each week, but with college bowl season in full swing, we’ve decided to turn our attention this week to the BCS bowl games. Those games start today, as the Ohio State Buckeyes and Oregon Ducks face off in the Rose Bowl, while the Florida Gators take on the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Sugar Bowl. More »


On Wednesday, the Eagles brought DE Marcus Howard and LB Leon Williams into their NovaCare Complex practice facility for workouts in hopes of evaluating their skills and potentially negotiating a contract. The move to bring the free agents in came as a likely result of C Jamaal Jackson’s injury status and how the veteran is expected to be placed on the Injured Reserve list, which would open up a spot on the roster. Today, the Birds welcomed another pair of players into Philadelphia to run through a brief session of drills and routines. Merrill Reese is the voice of the Eagles, and therefore works closely with the organization. And he obviously also knows a lot about the Eagles, which is why he is frequently correct or logical in his statements regarding transactions the Eagles make. The team’s official radio broadcaster spoke out recently about a player he believes the Birds should acquire, and it brings back some memories, actually. The veteran announcer suggested Philadelphia sign CB Allen Rossum, and although it’s unclear whether there’s any chance the team will indeed do so, it’s certainly a possibility. More »
