So your throwing a party huh? Whether its Pot Luck or whether you are gonna be slaving all day on sunday, there is plenty of options when it comes to the Super Bowl Party Menu. Some people like tons of Finger foods, some like a Main Course. Whatever your menu consists of you got to do it right because if you don’t then you probably won’t be hosting the 2011 Super Bowl Party. In no specific order, here is My Top 10 Super Bowl Foods.
Pizza
So whats not to like about Pizza? It folds in half for easier consumption and you can pretty much use any kind of salad dressing on it to make it taste better. Its quick, easy, clean and great for hangovers especially on “Super Slow Monday”. Now there are some downfalls: Ordering can be a pain in the A** on Super Bowl Sunday. Rounding up enough money after everybody thinks you told them to bring chips and dip can be a pain. But the worst is feeling sorry for the pizza delivery guy who is trying to peek in at the score on the tube.
Buffalo Wings
MMMMM. If done right these can be the highlight of the party. Like pizza, most salad dressings add to the flava in your mouth. They can be made with a variety of flavors. And, whats not cool about watching a chic but several messy bones in her mouth? Downfalls: Someones gotta make them because your not gonna pay 8 bucks for a pack of 10 wings from pizza hut when you gotta get enough wings to feed 20 people. They can be messy and for some reason all of your light colored furniture will have a red tint on them for 6 months. Oh yeah, there is always that one big dude who eats twice as much as anybody else.
Chili
When done right, Chili can make any meal better. You can eat it with a spoon, dip things in it, or use it as a dip. Whether its spicy or sweet it can add tons of flavor to whatever else you eat. There is a dark side to chili though, or should we call it a brown side. The last thing you want to do to a bunch of guys drinking beer and eating fattening and greasy foods is fuel it with beans. The night will seem like forever with people pointing at other or looking around confused trying to figure out who dealt it. Use caution when bringing Chili and always remember that its better to bring Chili to an outdoor event.
Ribs
Oh so delicious. Whether pork or beef you can never go wrong with ribs. Whether its the marinade that made the ribs or Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce that brought the flavor out, a good rack of ribs will be talked about until next years Super Bowl Party. Ribs are similar to wings. One person will eat half of them, they also come with a furniture tint, but one more bad thing about ribs is there is always one guy who tasted your ribs then lets everybody know “Man, I should have made some ribs with my recipe.” Jerk!
Chips and Salsa
Whether its a Spicy Habanero Salsa or a Pico de Gallo, a good tasting salsa can set the mood. What goes better with beer than salsa? There isn’t many things that are. For some people there is much confusion as to what constitutes Salsa. Tostitos, Pace and Old Victoria is not salsa. It is a spicy dip. To qualify a Salsa, you gotta make it yourself. So stop being lazy and pick up some Peppers, Cilantro, Onions, Garlic, Tomatoes and Lemons and make some.
Veggies and Dip
Sometimes this little combo is under-estimated. In these type of drinking and BBQing situations, most people don’t think about the health conscious skinny guy in the corner with the kids size jersey. Hey, he can be here too, he likes football. Notice that when one person starts eating the veggies, there will soon be 8 others there. Next thing you know, there is 2 carrots, half a piece of broccoli and 1 slice of celery left and no Effn Ranch dip.
Sausages and Hot Dogs
Maybe back in the day Sausages weren’t the best food to serve. Nowadays they come filled with cheese, spices and other goodies that you have to make some. Sausage: Check, Bun: Check, Mustard; Check, then you eat. Its that easy. Then there is hot dogs. There a side item that can help you with the total cost of the food bill and if done right, can be at least 2/3’s as good as the main part. Doesn’t it seem like everybody has kids nowadays? Sure does, now Hot Dogs are mandatory.
Burgers
There is nothing more American than this scene: A man, watching football, drinking a beer and eating a Burger. When it comes to Football, Burgers go hand in hand. Home made Ghetto burgers can be awesomely delicious but the last thing you want is a ball of ground beef in the center of a bun. So stop thinking “This is going to be a real Quarter Pounder”. Make it right, add some Pepper Jack cheese followed by some Bacon and you have yourself a masterpiece.
Nachos
Is it just me or are Nachos awesome? A Crock pot full of Nacho cheese from the can and a couple jars of Jalapenos and you have yourself a great appetizer. Dice up some kind of meat and sprinkle on top, add some shredded lettuce and tomatoes. The next thing you know everybody is fighting for the last Tortilla chip. Just make sure you buy too much Nacho Cheese because in the end it probably still wont be enough.
Pies
When people think Super Bowl foods you can look at the list above and odds are you will see some of them there. How often do people concentrate on dessert though? Not often in my experiences. I figure you throw in some pies maybe a German Chocolate Cake and now you have successfully had yourself a 3 course meal. People may question the whole dessert or pies idea but wouldnt you like a slice of pie after you just had 5 different BBQ flavored meats? I would.
So there you have it. My version of the “Top 10″ of Super Bowl Party Foods. If you are throwing a party this Sunday, make sure your food is on point. If it isn’t, even the guy who didn’t get invited will be talking about how your salsa needed more salt or how your ribs were as dry as your 80 year old Great Grandmother. Pay attention to detail and remember but napkins.
