Without a doubt, one of the biggest names swirling around the rumor mill this offseason is defensive end Julius Peppers. It has been speculated that Peppers is likely headed out of Carolina, but nothing is certain just yet. This week, though, we will get a better idea if the speculations are, in fact, true.

By this Thursday, NFL teams must decide which players they want to use the franchise tag on. Although the Carolina Panthers used the franchise tag on Peppers last season, they are expected to let him test the free agent market this season.

Julius Peppers is still one of the most disruptive defensive ends in all of football, and there will be teams anxiously waiting for Thursday to see if he will become available.

In my opinion, teams need to be willing to give Peppers the money he wants, especially if a pass-rushing defensive end is something that they lack on their team. His blend of size and speed causes havoc on opposing offenses, and he is the type of player that can single-handedly change the outcome of any given game. When a guy like that becomes available, you need to do everything in your power to scoop him up.

One thing is certain: Julius Peppers will not remain on the free agent market very long.
