The Cleveland Browns are still active prior to the draft in April. The Browns have signed QB Seneca Wallace from the Seattle Seahawks. This actually means something… Let’s take a look
Mike Holmgren clearly dipping into the pool of talent that he is familiar with is a good thing…in theory.
But let’s take a look at the QBs that the Browns have now. With the Browns still clinging to Brady Quinn, after acquiring yet another QB (which was expected), it is no surprise that Derrick Anderson was cut today.
Quinn has not looked like an all-star QB. There have been a few flashes in the pan but always against pretty crappy teams. Quinn would appear to be the easiest to unload for the Browns, love him or hate him. His contract is fairly low (mostly incentive based) and he is the younger of the two QBs.
Anderson is officially released From what I understand, and please correct me if I am wrong, but as of the the start of the 2010 season just guaranteed Anderson a $2 mil. roster bonus. Why would the Browns pay that if they were not going to keep him… One reason might be that there are no takers for Anderson. But release him and you save money.
Anything can happen and as long as the team gets better, for all I care, both QBs can take a hike. One season from Anderson (3 years ago) is not enough reason to keep him (and they didn’t). And Quinn has gotten the opportunity (albeit a short one) to show what he has and hasn’t. To be fair I think that Quinn would be better to keep.
My prediction is that either Anderson is gone or Quinn AND Anderson are gone. We will see how it all plays out.
Perhaps they will be used for draft day trading. We can only hope.
