There have been plenty of rumors spread around the league regarding the Eagles’ Quarterbacks and how they could possibly be dealt to other teams, but few reports are filled with confirmed information and detailed descriptions of potential trades. One of the latest, attention-grabbing suggestions that has been tossed about includes a team that has not yet been mentioned seriously in terms of desiring to acquire a Philadelphia passer–the Seattle Seahawks. Apparently, they have been “calling non-stop and they want Kevin Kolb or Donovan McNabb“. Sal Paolantonio of the ESPN sports network originally provided this piece of news, and claims to have learned it from “very reliable sources”.
The Seahawks, who previously had a connection with the Eagles in the form of coach Mike Holmgren being a former mentor of Philly staff member Andy Reid, traded their reliable backup QB Seneca Wallace to the Cleveland Browns, and now have only aged Matt Hasselbeck and unproven Mike Teel on the roster at the position. The franchise is expected to be parting ways with Hasselbeck in the near future, for he has been riddled with injuries and inconsistency over the last few seasons. The team is also under the lead of new head coach Pete Carroll, who supposedly tends to favor experienced and top-tier Quarterbacks. “Seattle is very, very interested either in McNabb or Kolb because Pete Carroll does not want to lose in his first season back in the NFL. He wants to come out of the gates winning,” Paolantonio said.
There have been indications that a deal will not take place involving McNabb, most notably statements by Andy Reid saying that he will be the starting QB in 2010, as well as confirmed bits of information that proved the Eagles recently refused to listen to trade offers for the 6-time Pro-Bowler. Seattle is supposedly interested nonetheless, and if a McNabb deal would fall through, perhaps would offer some serious Draft compensation in exchange for a young guy like Kolb (pictured).
