In watching the Chicago Bears these last few years, it seems like there’s something very significant that has been missing. No, it’s more than an offensive line, and more than a decent play caller. I couldn’t really put my finger on it until I ran across this story on the Chicago Tribune. Oh you got that straight, Da Super Fans have returned!
Here’s the reason for the return:
“Da Bears Movie Dat Wasn’t” will be a live reading — by George Wendt, Joe Mantegna, Robert Smigel, Bob Odenkirk, Richard Roeper (as a narrator) and Mike Ditka (as himself) — of a never-produced screenplay. Da plot? Da Bears are being sold, and beloved Soldier Field is being converted into luxury boxes for the rich.”
Wait, and Coach Ditka!? Oh man, how I want to live in Chicago right now.
There’s no question that The Super Fans is one of the greatest sketches in Saturday Night Live history, and I really wish they would have made this movie back in the day. It would have been an opening night viewing for myself, and would probably be playing in my DVD player as I type this. So if I can’t get the movie, then I’m officially demanding that this live reading be put on a DVD.
In case you don’t know a whole lot about the Super Fans, here’s the most recent video, as the Super Fans talk with Colts’ kicker Adam Vinatieri after Da Bears’ Super Bowl loss a few years ago:
