I do love sports video games. While I’m not a hardcore gamer, I do tend to give most sports video games a shot. Of course, the crown jewel of those games is the Madden series. As of late, the Madden series has been pretty underwhelming in my opinion. Which is why I had already made up my mind that I would not be buying Madden 11 when it hit stores August 10th. But now, I will most certainly be purchasing it. Why? Because our favorite enthusiastic commentator Gus Johnson has officially taken over the reigns as the new play-by-play man.

Sure, my boy Gus does get a little over the top sometimes. But you’ve got to love the man’s enthusiasm. When I’m playing a football game, I don’t want to sit there and not feel any type of emotion whatsoever. I want to feel like what I’m playing is a replica of the real thing, and we know that there’s quite a bit of emotion and testosterone involved in the NFL.

You’ll either love this move or hate this move, depending on your tolerance for Johnson. But I love this move, and never in my history of sports video game buying have I let the commentary influence whether or not I was going to purchase the game. But Gus Johnson has changed that.

So thank you, Gus Johnson. You, sir, are awesome.

This news is more exciting than words can express. Johnson is by far the best guy calling any sports action these days and will make Madden a far more enjoyable experience.
