The past few years have been pretty interesting if you’re a fan of the Green Bay Packers. You lose the face of your franchise to retirement, un-retirement, the New York Jets, retirement, un-retirement, and your division rival, the Minnesota Vikings. But to some fans, Brett Favre will always be their favorites…..well, maybe until now.
Favre decided to make the statement that the 2009 season with the Vikings, which saw them reach the NFC Title game and lose in OT to the New Orleans Saints, as “the best season I’ve ever had.” Uh oh. Packer fans may be a little upset after hearing that one.
I mean, after all, Favre did win a Super Bowl with in 1996, and has yet to do that with the Vikings. He’s only spent one season in Minnesota thus far, yet it calls it the best he’s ever had. That can’t be too thrilling to hear for folks who supported him all those years in Green Bay.
But football is a business, and we all know that. At this point, Favre may play another five seasons for five different teams. Who knows.
I guess if Favre wins a Super Bowl this season with the Vikings, he’ll call that his favorite season ever, and that’ll really make Packer fans even more angry. Favre is a master at this kind of stuff, and he knows that this will travel around, and the folks in Green Bay will react negatively to it.
But we’ve come to expect this kind of stuff from Favre, so to me, it’s just yet another way for him to keep himself in the media spotlight year-round.
