Some very surprising news coming out of Seattle this afternoon, as the Seattle Seahawks have officially waived newly acquired running back LenDale White. I’m not sure anyone saw this coming, and if they did, it certainly wasn’t expected to be this quick.
Fans of the Tennessee Titans were questioning as to why their team gave up so much (in White and Kevin Vickerson) to move up just a few spots in the draft. Now, it looks like the Titans had some sort of reasoning behind their decision, as White has made them look like geniuses. It sounds like this is more of a motivation thing vs. a value of play on the field kind of thing.
As an NFL player, you never want your level of commitment questioned, but that’s exactly what is happening to White in this case. People questioned his worth ethic in Tennessee, so the reasoning can’t come as a big shock. But how quickly the Seahawks rid themselves of him is certainly a little shocking, especially considering that his former college coach at USC, Pete Carroll, was just hired in Seattle. The trade made sense when it happened, but for your former college coach to even let you go, well, then White had to be screwing up pretty badly.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see where White goes from here, and see who takes a chance on him. Because as we know, someone will take a chance on him. He’s a very good running back when he plays his best, so there will be another franchise out there that gives him a shot. Someone will think they can be the ones to change him.
We’ll just have to see what team steps forward and does that.
