All NFL fans are familiar with the dreaded quarterback controversy mantra and if you have two starting quarterbacks you really have none, but does the same apply for running backs? The Buffalo Bills are faced with answering that difficult question as the team has reportedly been shopping their former first round draft pick Marshawn Lynch around the league after taking the explosive C.J. Spiller of Clemson Tigers fame in the opening round of this past April’s NFL Draft. Buffalo already has Fred Jackson in their stable of ball carriers and he shouldered the bulk of the load last season with the squad.

Signs have pointed toward Lynch being on the trading block since his felony weapons charge in California in February of 2009. The Bills organization has been largely underwhelmed by his production since the highly touted player out of the University of California racked up back to back 1,000 plus yard seasons in his first two NFL campaigns. Now entering his fourth season in the league, the Bills appear ready to turn the page on their relationship with Lynch and begin the rebuilding process of the organization with their new head coach Chan Gailey. Just two weeks ago Lynch was working out on his own at the team’s facilities, but not attending practices and failing to make contact with the team’s new man in charge.

Considering the fact that the Bills used a top ten selection on Spiller in April’s draft, it seems highly unlikely that their future plans include Lynch. Teams rumored to be interested in the ball carrier include the Seattle Seahawks who already took a shot at a running back perceived to be on the decline this offseason in LenDale White before releasing him just one month after trading for his rights. White is reportedly facing a league suspension to begin the 2010, but Seattle seems desperate for some help in the backfield and they had to know of these issues prior to pulling the trigger on that deal. A deal to land the disgruntled Lynch to the Seahawks makes sense on a number of fronts as he would love to play on the West Coast and Seattle would reunite him with his college teammate Justin Forsett in the team’s backfield.

Whatever ultimately transpires with Lynch and the Bills this offseason, it seems obvious that he won’t be wearing their colors again in his career. Lynch has burned plenty of bridges in the organization and the fan base is relatively fed up with his off-field behavior as well from the gun charges to traffic violations. Seattle seems like a logical destination having already tried to improve their running woes unsuccessfully this offseason once. Pete Carroll’s college driven mentality would most likely make for a fruitful reunion with Lynch and Forsett as the Cal duo gets back together for the 2010 season.
