Raise your hand if you’re getting tired of this whole mess involving Redskins’ defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. I’m hoping that a lot of you threw your hands in the air like you just don’t care. Because I know that there’s nothing I hate more than a professional athlete who signs a big ol’ fat check and then does nothing but complain about his current situation.
However, despite all the requests from Haynesworth to the Redskins about trading him, it does look like he’ll be showing up for Redskins’ training camp next month. Hooray! Honestly, does it matter if he shows up for training camp or not? We all know that eventually, he’s going to get upset again, and he’s still going to demand a trade to another team.
Haynesworth can talk all he wants about honoring his contract. But I’m not buying it. He’s made things very difficult now for the entire organization, and I’d say that he’s ruffled a few feathers in the locker room. I don’t see how Dan Snyder and Mike Shanahan keep him around for this upcoming season, but after paying them that hefty $21 million bonus a few months ago, they’ve probably got their reasons.
Basically, this guy has done nothing but complained every since he arrived in the nation’s capital, and that’s hurt the fact that he was the best defensive tackle in the game a few years ago when he was with the Titans. I realize he doesn’t want to play in a 3-4 scheme, but if you’re getting paid a $21 million bonus, you better play wherever they ask you to play.
He’s got paid, so now it’s his job to play. Of course, it’s not going to be that easy though. I would say that the Redskins will eventually trade him, and he’ll be able to go complain somewhere else.
