It’s been a long, nervous off-season for fans of the Tennessee Titans. And why shouldn’t they be nervous? Their best player has been holding out for a new contract and without that best player, there is no way that this team even thinks about getting into the playoffs. However, Titans’ fans can breath a little easier, as today that the organization has reached an agreement with all-world running back Chris Johnson that will give him the new deal that he’s been looking for.

Throughout this whole saga, most thought that it was just a matter of time before both sides agreed and all the team’s problems were solved. But as the days progressed, it seemed like Johnson and the team were growing father apart. I really did start to wonder whether he would be playing for this team in the upcoming season, and if he would indeed hold out an entire season just to get more money.

While Johnson is probably ecstatic that he finally gets the bigger payday that he was looking for, there can’t be anyone happier than Vince Young right now. Young knows that this offense goes through Johnson, and without him, it would be a whole lot harder for the passing game to be effective. The Titans simply don’t have the weapons on the outside to make the big plays, and a Johnson-less offensive squad would be an offensive squad that would struggle mightily.

Luckily though, the Titans have their main man back. While this whole situation isn’t resolved completely (since the agreement is basically a one-year fix to at least make Johnson happy through the season), they at least know that they are doing something that simply has to be done. Again, without Johnson, this team is just not the same, and they would have no postseason aspirations this upcoming season.

But the Titans can worry about the next few years later. They’ve got their playmaker back, and that’s not something that defensive coaches around the league wanted to hear.
