Terrell Owens has yet to find an NFL team willing to take on his baggage, but talks are beginning to heat up from a number of different cities. After spending last year in purgatory, errr, with the Buffalo Bills, Owens is seeking a contender while trying to add that final elusive piece to his Hall of Fame worthy resume; a Super Bowl ring. A wide variety of teams have been linked to Owens this offseason and it will be easier to simply breakdown each of them individually to determine which has a higher likelihood of coming to fruition.

In terms of acquiring that aforementioned ring that Owens is looking for, the St. Louis Rams probably don’t top his list, but the much maligned wideout has to just enjoy being courted a bit after a rather benign offseason. While still trying to work out a deal with the number one overall selection Sam Bradford at the moment, the Rams had enough time to suggest some interest in the 36 year old receiver. St. Louis has a young receiving corps led by Donnie Avery and Laurent Robinson both of whom could certainly use a veteran influence to help these youngsters learn the intricacies of NFL route running. Playing in the Midwest could be a good move to help mellow out Owens’ sometimes egomaniacal personality as well so the Rams are definitely a candidate.

The Cincinnati Bengals were linked to Owens early in the offseason and denied any involvement, but current number one receiver Chad Ochocinco has continued his involvement in the matter and now has quarterback Carson Palmer on board for the T.O. experiment. It’s really difficult to think any signal caller better equipped to deal with the flamboyant Owens than Palmer with the six years he has logged on the field with Ochocinco in Cincy. Owens could add yet another dimension to the Bengals improving offense with the ground game of Cedric Benson and the draft choice of tight end Jermaine Gresham this April. Their Head Coach Marvin Lewis has never been shy to take a chance on a questionable player before, so why start now?

Finally, the New York Jets have recently become a factor in this discussion and what a perfect marriage this would make. Rex Ryan’s group certainly has some personality and adding another into the mix would just be a drop in the bucket for New York. The Jets have attempted to load up for what looks like a one year run at the Lombardi trophy in 2010 so this move makes perfect sense for a one-year contract and even more explosiveness on the outside for second year quarterback Mark Sanchez. The team traded for Santonio Holmes earlier this offseason, but he will be suspended for the first four games of the year which would allow Owens some time to feed his ego with some early grabs. Call me crazy, but this move just makes too much sense not to happen.

Whatever ultimately happens, it shouldn’t be long before Owens has somewhere to call home and a new quarterback to faux-cry about after a tough loss. Let the soap opera begin and get your popcorn ready!
