As most of you have probably already heard, Terrell Owens is officially a member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Although many people think that this a disaster waiting to happen, I don’t see it like that.
Obviously, it’s no secret that Owens’ skills have declined, and he is no longer a top-flight receiver in the NFL anymore. But despite that, the Bengals should be more than fine at the receiver position, as they already have Chad Ochocinco and Antonio Bryant to catch passes from Carson Palmer. With that being the case, the load will not fall on the shoulders of T.O. to carry this team. This is when I feel he can be the most effective. Just imagine second-rate defenders trying to cover Owens. It is going to be a joke, as Owens is still in incredible shape.
Of course there are also the concerns about the character on this team with the addition of Owens. Will they really be able to coexist?
Not only do I believe that they will, but I think that they are going to feed off of each other in a very positive way. In particular, I think Terrell Owens has grown up a lot since he has played with the Eagles. He has been more dedicated to helping his teams win, and he is no longer the disruptive force in the locker room. He might still have the reputation, but in reality, that guy no longer exists.
Even though Owens has tamed down a bit, it doesn’t mean that he is not going to put on a show for the fans every game. At the end of the day, Owens is an entertainer and he takes pride in that. Did I mention that they have Chad Ochocinco?
When I look at the Bengals headed into this upcoming season, I see a team that fans are going to be interested in. Whether you hate T.O. or Ochocinco, you are going to want to know what this team is up to. Sure they are both getting older, and they are possibly passed their primes, but they are never going to act like that’s an issue. They are going to continue to do what they do best, and they are going to make the fans beg for more. And if your name is Roger Goodell, that has to put a big smile on your face.
