The man who was dubbed “The NFL’s Most Exciting Player” during his early days with the Atlanta Falcons is preparing to make his first start in almost five years with the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, Michael Vick has changed. Instead of being a run-first quarterback, the former Virginia Tech star has grown into more of a passer, but still has the legs to be a legitimate threat on the ground.
The Green Bay Packers would be the first ones to tell you that Vick is definitly ready to step in for Kolb. In the team’s opening game, Vick nearly led an improbable comeback, rushing for over 100 yards, and coming up short by one yard on a fourth down attempt that could have given the Eagles a chance to win the game.
The first “Vick-tims” for Michael will be the Detroit Lions, who will also be without their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, who injured his shoulder once again.
Don’t expect Vick to do too much. The Eagles’ play-calling isn’t exactly designed to showcase Vick, but that doesn’t mean he won’t get opportunities. Unlike last week, the Eagles will need LeSean McCoy to get going, in order for Vick to be able to get some time in the pocket to complete his passes.
Philly fans were pumped for Kolb’s first start, but after seeing the career-backup struggle miserably, the excitement for Vick is through the roof. If Vick goes out, has a great game, and leads the Eagles to their first victory in 2010, can you say ‘QB controversy’?
