Ed Reed kicked around the “R” word after last season’s abrupt and disappointing conclusion and some thought he was just reacting negatively after a difficult loss. Now that it has become clear that Reed is having difficulties getting himself physically ready for the 2010 season, the though of retirement has to be even more resonant in his mind. As arguably one of the league’s most complete safeties, Reed has been a fixture with the Baltimore Ravens back seven since 2002 and received several accolades as a result. More »
There are still some names on the free agent market, but none of those will garner the attention of St. Louis Rams safety O.J. Atogwe. It was made official that St. Louis decided not to re-tender him at the pricey $6.976 million that would have been required for such a move to ensure them of his presence on their roster in 2010. The Rams centerfielder on defense had his 2009 season shortened by a shoulder injury that ultimately landed him on injured reserve and he also had hernia surgery this offseason. Those potential injury concerns will have to be thoroughly examined by any teams looking into inking him now that he is on the open market. More »
Football fans are all aware by now of the suspension levied by the league Commissioner Roger Goodell that will sideline Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for at least the first four games of the 2010 season. The implications of that punishment could be devastating for the Steelers campaign in the upcoming year however; as they face two difficult home opponents in the opening contest with the Atlanta Falcons and in week 4 against the division rival Baltimore Ravens. Pittsburgh also has two road tilts stuffed in between those games at the Tennessee Titans in week two and then at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week three. More »

Remember how exciting (or daunting) report card day was back in school? The anxiety over what grades you would be taking home to mom and dad this term. Ugh. Well, there are no report cards persay in the NFL playoffs, but with the field narrowed down to just four contenders for the Lombardi trophy, grading the remaining participants sounds like a spectabulous idea. In no way is this supposed to be an article about sports betting, but more than a touchdown spread seems like overkill in this contest against the now darling pick sweeping the nation in the New York Jets.
