If you were one of the many fans that tuned into the 1st-round of the 2010 NFL Draft on TV or the rookie selection event, you probably already know that the Eagles have selected DE Brandon Graham. Though a surprising move, especially since the team dealt both of their 3rd-round selections (as well as their 24th overall pick) in order to get him, there is no arguing that a prototype defensive end was needed, and with a solid collegiate career and praise from just about every scout that evaluated him, it’s hard to get upset at the Eagles’ decision to take him. Following the sudden announcement late on Easter Sunday that QB Donovan McNabb had met the conclusion of his tenure in Philadelphia and had been traded within the NFC East division to the Redskins, members of the Eagles’ front office opened up on the bold move and a variety of subtopics dealing with the headline-grabbing trade. Head coach Andy Reid, who had a very tight relationship with the quarterback since drafting him in 1999, spent the most time talking to the media, while team owner Jeffrey Lurie, and president Joe Banner also spoke about the deal. Despite there being some supposed disagreements on the trade (some dating back to early March) between guys leading the organization, they all seemed saddened to see Donovan (pictured) go, yet proud to know that he had such a wonderful career as an Eagle. Unless you were away from a TV, phone, computer, mountain, or anything else yesterday, you’ve probably heard the news that Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins. So of course, all the attention is now turned onto whether or McNabb can lead the Redskins to the Super Bowl, and whether or not McNabb’s exit from Philadelphia could leave the Eagles in a world of hurt when it comes to their championship chances. But I’m more concerned about Jason Campbell. Where does he go from here? More »
Last week, rumors surfaced that Donovan McNabb–longtime Eagles QB who has been surrounded by trade speculation and reports over the past week or so–was potentially going to be involved in a multi-player deal that would send him to the Raiders. Several days passed following the initial release of the supposed information without a serious follow-up, but it appears the McNabb-to-Oakland story is picking up again, and heavily. Various league sources have indicated that the Raiders and their owner Al Davis have not been scared off by McNabb’s high salary totals and reluctance to go to an organization without much recent success, and are truly emerging as the front runners in this offseason attempt by teams to acquire the veteran passer from Philadelphia (whose head coach Andy Reid openly admitted about a week ago that the front office is listening to trade offers). The rumors simply will not stop. Since head coach Andy Reid said early on Wednesday that the Eagles are now listening to trade offers from teams interested in their three quarterbacks, a seemingly endless flow of speculative reports and stories of gossip as to where the passers might end up if indeed dealt has spread across the NFL world. There have been interesting suggestions and rumored deals in the works, such as the Rams supposedly offering their 33rd overall pick in the Draft as well as FS O.J. Atogwe for Donovan McNabb, as well as the Bills placing an offer on the table that includes a bunch of high selections in the Draft for McNabb (pictured) or young backup Kevin Kolb. The St. Louis deal was denied by the Rams’ general manager himself, while the report involving the Bills, as well as others, remain open possibilities. In the latest release of information regarding what has suddenly become a hot topic around the league again, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has claimed–via a tip from a source–that a multi-player trade with the Raiders is potentially in the works. Over the past few days, the Eagles’ QB situation–specifically surrounding starter Donovan McNabb–exploded with rumors and reports in regards to where any of the three passers could be dealt within the near future. Head coach Andy Reid sparked the constant flow of speculation when he confirmed the team is now listening to trade offers, but it seems many think McNabb–and quite possible backups Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick–will be staying with the Eagles for the 2010 season. Below is a compilation of various sources’ input on the entire ordeal, most of which strongly believe the hype is not to be believed and that McNabb (pictured) should and will remain with Philadelphia: More »
Though nothing too serious has come of the constant Donovan McNabb trade rumors (yet), there has been another wave of information regarding the situation. Previous parts of the ordeal included a report suggesting the Rams offered their 33rd overall Draft pick and FS O.J. Atogwe (which was later denied by St. Louis officials) and speculation that the Raiders and Bills were aggressively pursuing the veteran QB, but more on the topic has been learned. Below is a list of some recent findings in the situation, all of which are quite interesting and provide for more thought on what will really happen to Donovan McNabb (pictured): More »
Earlier in the offseason, young receiver DeSean Jackson was expected to request the Eagles for a new contract that would increase his salary. Though the team has spent some money signing new players like Marlin Jackson and inking trade acquisitions like Darryl Tapp to long-term deals, a new contract for Jackson has yet to come. In fact, the 2-year veteran of the league is not expected to receive one for quite a while. The Philadelphia Daily News network has reported that the new rules put into place as a result of the unresolved Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations will make it difficult for teams–including the Eagles–to lock up players with extensions of their previous payment structures. McNabb’s reuniting with T.O.?! That’s probably what many of you thought upon an initial glance at this article’s title. However, there is more than plenty reasoning to do so…after all, we all know how the saga between the Eagles’ Quarterback and outspoken receiver ended several years ago. Supposedly, the two are friends again, though, despite their publicized feud on and off the field in the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and are teaming up for a television program. More »
The rumors of where Michael Vick might be playing in the 2010 season are sure to heat up when the new league year arrives on March 5th and trading is allowed…however, the Eagles’ Quarterback might have stirred up the serious speculation a little early with some statements he made on an Atlanta radio show appearance. After being asked by the host to answer a listener’s question regarding where he would like to play if he could choose anywhere in the NFL, Vick said it would be the Carolina Panthers. More »
