Remember back to Brian Cushing’s positive test for a banned substance on the NFL’s list of masking agents? Well the Houston Texans Rookie of the Year award recipient now has a new rebuttal for his positive test; overtraining. No, seriously. The Associated Press decided to hold a re-vote for its Defensive Rookie of the Year award after the announcement of a positive test for a banned substance in regard to Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing. Public assumption said that Cushing would be stripped of the award and the second place finisher from the first tally, Buffalo Bills safety Jarius Byrd, would likely haul in the hardware instead. In a bit of a surprise, the voters reconvened and still named Cushing the recipient of the award which needless to say has caused a bit of controversy around the sports media world. More »


With a number of offseason image problems plaguing the NFL from the Ben Roethlisberger scandal to the collective bargaining agreement being in limbo, the last thing that the league wanted was one its young up-and-coming stars to test positive for a banned substance. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened when Houston Texans linebacker and 2009 Rookie of the Year Brian Cushing was officially suspended for the first four games in the 2010 season after testing positive for a non-steroidal banned substance. It was revealed that Cushing appealed the failed test in February, but the NFL found that the test was legit and went ahead with the announcement to suspend Cushing. More »

With Hall of Fame resumes lurking in the weeds like Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan, John Gruden, and Brian Billick, owners will undoubtedly be infatuated with the thought of making a blockbuster hire this offseason. Although it is still a bit murky, there may finally be some sun breaking through the cloudiness that is the AFC playoff picture as the Tennessee Titans have now been eliminated from contention and losses by both the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Miami Dolphins all but sealed their playoff fates as outsiders. The muddled mess is now whittled down to five contenders for two spots as the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, and New York Jets cling to life heading into the season’s final week. Now that the Tennessee Titans are winning, the AFC South is actually getting more exciting. The Titans are 4-6, the Texans 5-5, and the Jaguars 6-4. Since the creation of the AFC South in 2002 there has only been 2 years in which the AFC South didn’t send a 2nd team to the playoffs. The Houston Texans will be forced to finish the rest of their season without one of their best defensive players, Safety Eugene Wilson. Houston placed the seven year vet on the injured reserve earlier today, and to fill the empty spot on their roster, they have signed Safety Brian Russell. More »


Much controversy was brought up about a high-five that was exchanged between Vince Young and referee, Jerome Boger. It was all over Houston talk radio and many people were led to believe that this was a sign of the refs favoring the Tennessee Titans during the game.
