Football fans are all aware by now of the suspension levied by the league Commissioner Roger Goodell that will sideline Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for at least the first four games of the 2010 season. The implications of that punishment could be devastating for the Steelers campaign in the upcoming year however; as they face two difficult home opponents in the opening contest with the Atlanta Falcons and in week 4 against the division rival Baltimore Ravens. Pittsburgh also has two road tilts stuffed in between those games at the Tennessee Titans in week two and then at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week three. More »

The blog world is going crazy right now in anticipation of the Sunday night affair without Big Ben. The Steelers, under Mike Tomlin, have it right with their third string quarterback. Dixon is an athletic play maker, who can run your practice squad in several ways and if called upon give the defense a drastically different approach. More »

If you’ve ever watched ‘House’ on FOX, you’ll know that actor Omar Epps is on the show. And you’ve probably also noticed the resemblance in comparing Epps to Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin. I mean, you can’t doubt the striking similarities between these two guys. You could tell someone that they were brothers, and no one would think twice about it. More »

It is has been extremely difficult holding back each and every sarcastic comment about Brett Farve’s so called retirement. I’ve swallowed the urge to talk about his last year’s season and the 29 interceptions he threw not so long ago. It hurts to have to keep these feelings to myself. When Brett Farve decided to play I circled this week on my calendar. I hoped that the Vikings would have been in the middle of a massive losing streak and that Adrian Peterson was publicly complaining. I was ready to start a Tarvaris Jackson for quarterback campaign. Unfortunately, the Vikings are undefeated and all these thoughts will remain dormant until Brett Farve single handedly loses a playoff game for the Vikings. More »

In case you didn’t hear last night on NBC, Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be appearing on WWE RAW tonight in Pittsburgh. More »

So yes people, I am alive. I’ve gotten several emails and inquiries wondering how I was after Sunday’s game. The shock that sent me into a brief but very difficult coma has left and I’m ready to move forward. Yes, the…ummm…Bengals did win. That’s a tough pill to swallow, but honestly, we are 1-2 while demonstrating that we can do some very good things. Yes, we need Troy Polamalu back and back fast, but even muttering the words GIVE UP is ludicrous . And while I’m at it, the predictions, sure i’m 1-2 but listen, last year i finished 12-4. What fan in their right mind would pick against their team (Raiders and Lions are extempt from this clause). More »

The answer is a resounding NO! Yes they have lost two games that they should have won, and the negatives seem to be outweighing the positives at this point, but it is not yet time to throw in the terrible towel. My expectations are still high, even though my grades for week 3 will be low. More »

In hindsight, there are so many things that could have been done differently in yesterday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. The one that really stands out to me is right before the end of the first half when Mike Tomlin decided to go for it on 4th and 4 and Roethlisberger’s pass to Santonio Holmes was incomplete. The Bengals were able to capitalize and score a field goal and the momentum right before the half. More »

There are transcending coaches that come along in every sport every so often. Vince Lombardi was that guy, Chuck Noll changed the way defense was played, Bill Walsh invented the west coast offense, and one could argue Tony Dungy or Bill Parcells did the same respectively.

Bill Cower was a god in Pittsburgh. Replacing him is like replacing a classic Mustang with one of the new, sort of look like a Mustang, Mustangs. We all thought it would be impossible. We took the stance that he was irreplaceable and we need to the closest thing to Bill Cower. Was it Ken Whisenhunt or Russ Grim? We couldn’t fathom anyone taking Bill Cower’s place, it just couldn’t happen. More »
