Another exciting week of NFL action has come and gone, and there were several good games this past weekend. So now, it’s time to sit back and think about what we saw this weekend, and it’s time for me to tell you what I learned. More »

On Saturday, I wrote my reasons why the Eagles would lose to the Redskins (right here). Pretty much all of those things I mentioned came true, luckily for us Jim Zorn and the Redskins abandoned the run and tried to make Jason Campbell beat us himself. It almost worked. The Eagles secondary is a patched-together unit made up of veterans and guys off the street. Campbell made some amazing throws and Santana Moss had a pretty good game, all I can say is thank the football gods that Chris Cooley didn’t play or this could have been a very different game. If you were wondering why LenDale White was inactive yesterday against the Arizona Cardinals, well, now you’ve got your answer. It seems as though Mr. White was a late arrival at Saturday’s walk-through, so Jeff Fisher sent a message and didn’t allow him to play. More »

As we prepare for the showdown tonight between the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, it’s time to look back on all the great football action from yesterday, as there were some pretty good games and some exciting finishes. More »

Well, the status of Kurt Warner was questionable heading into today’s game against the Tennessee Titans, but now it looks as though Warner will not get the start against the surging Titans. So you all know what that means. Matt Leinart is back in the saddle for the Cardinals…..at least for today’s game. And that also means that we’ll get Leinart vs. Young, in a showdown between two of the greatest college QB’s of all-time. More »

Although the revealing of which color jersey the Eagles will wear this week will certainly not affect preparation and how the game will play out, it should be noted that the team will don their alternate black uniforms, which they wear only once a season. Even if you are a complete non-believer of superstitions and odd historical facts alike, there is reason to have a bit of confidence this week because of the black-colored jerseys (perhaps more so just because the Birds’ opponent is the lowly Redskins). So I just learned that Albert Haynesworth is out today against us Eagles. That is good news. The Eagles must win this game or risk falling way behind the Cowboys in the NFC East race. Plus then you lose to the Redskins, and no one wants that. Donovan McNabb has been looking sharp recently, but without help from his young receivers he will have trouble from the Washington secondary and their two outstanding pass rushers, Andre Carter and Brian Orakpo. The Philly defense has been playing well, especially considering their lack of depth in their own secondary. Joselio Hanson has another two games on his suspension and will be replaced with a combination of Macho Harris, Dimitri Patterson, and the janitor from the 700 level. Join us at 1PM for a live blog and as usual your comments are welcome, the snarkier they are, the better.

The Eagles inactives list includes: Brian Westbrook, Stacy Andrews, Kevin Curtis, Kevin Kolb, P.J. Hill, Akeem Jordan, Mike McGlynn, and Geoffrey Pope

1:00 - It’s kickoff time in Philadelphia!

1:04 - I usually like those trick plays, but you’ve got to execute the play. Now we lose possession.

1:07 - QB sneak TD by Jason Campbell, the defense bit on the play fake and tackled the wrong guy! This is why it’s a gamble to use those trick plays. This is nothing we can’t come back from but it’s an unnecessary hole Reid put us in. 7-0 Redskins

1:11 - Man, Jeremy Maclin looks like a seasoned veteran catching the ball, doesn’t he?

1:17 - Good call on 4th and goal, but bad play by Celek. Akers makes it a 4 point game. 7-3 Redskins.

1:27 - Great stop by the defense, and even better return effort by DeSean Jackson. Eagles take over.

1:32 - The Eagles have absolutely no respect for this Redskins defense, that is the second 4th down we went for, in addition to the onside kick we opened the game with.

1:34 - I’m sorry, but how does DeSean Jackson get that open?! That 35 yard TD by Jackson was his shortest of the season, 10-7 Eagles

1:38 - Wow did you see Antonio Dixon on that play?! He broke through the line (missed the tackle) and disrupted the play in the backfield. This kid is impressive (he blocked that field goal last week).

1:43 - END OF FIRST QUARTER

1:49 -
That was an awful defensive call. We were way too spread out and let Santana Moss score an easy TD. 14-10 Redskins.

1:54 - We are killing ourselves with these missed opportunities. McNabb is having a problem with these long throws. McNabb is underthrowing, and I’m not sure why. Maclin and Jackson have so much speed.

1:58 - Washington gets great field position again, with McNabb trying to do too much and taking a sack when he really didn’t have to.

2:03 - That was what we needed from our defense. Good three and out and we get the ball back. Not great field position though.

2:10 - This Washington defensive line is getting a tremendous amount of pressure on McNabb, our offensive line needs to step up and protect McNabb, he just needs like one more second to throw the ball.

2:13 - I give Asante Samuel a lot of guff for his inability to tackle anything other than a flying plastic bag, but he can really make plays when it counts. This is a huge chance for the Eagles to take this game over.

2:20 - Maclin is a good receiver, but McNabb threw it in the middle of three Redskins, no way Maclin scores from there. Bad call or bad decision, or both. Akers makes it 14-13 Redskins.

2:26 - Trent Cole should be given credit for that interception. His pressure forced Campbell to hurry his thrown, and Asante Samuel earns his paycheck today, with his second INT of the game, and SEVENTH of the season.

2:30 -
Akers gives us the lead again 16-14 Eagles. Great luck getting the lead before halftime, but we absolutely must play smart the second half (personally I thought we should have taken another shot at the end zone). 16-14 Eagles

2:32 - Akers messes up the squib kick, but the Redskins can’t capitalize as Trent Cole sacks Campbell.

HALFTIME STATS:
Donovan McNabb:
12 of 19, 126 yards, 1 TD
Jason Campbell: 12 of 20, 97 yards 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 rushing TD
Rock Cartwright: 7 rushes for 22 yards
LeSean McCoy: 9 rushes for 49 yards
Malcolm Kelly: 1 catch for 27 yards
DeSean Jackson: 1 catch for 35 yards, 1 TD

Keys To The Game:
Better Pass Protection McNabb needs time to throw, he hasn’t taken many sacks, but he hasn’t had enough time to throw either. The O-line needs to cut the penalties and protect McNabb better.

Defense, Defense, Defense We are making the Redskins look good. They aren’t good, and we need to play like it. We started to get better at the end of the half, with 2 INTs and a sack.

2:47 - Another batted ball for McNabb, this Redskins D-line is getting good penetration and getting their hands up, no good for Philly.

2:55 - Campbell makes a great throw to Devin Thomas. The Eagles defense is back on their heels, making terrible attempts at tackles and being caught out of position. They need to get their heads on straight.

2:57 - Terrible decision by Joe Mays, he needs to go right now. He left his man uncovered to tackle Jason Campbell. Just awful. The Redskins are killing us on third downs, they have converted almost every single third down. 21-16 Redskins.

3:04 - Another bad decision by McNabb. Here’s a hint: On third down, throw the ball past the first down marker, just a thought. DeSean Jackson is down, and here’s hoping it’s nothing serious.

3:14 - Bunkley is now down, which is not good at all, he’s almost as big of a loss as DeSean Jackson.

3:20 - another 3 and out, this offense just can’t get anything going. The defense is doing as good as it can, but the offense isn’t helping at all.

3:23 - Great read by Campbell to scramble, but a holding call bails the Birds out.

END OF THIRD QUARTER

3:30 - Good pressure by Washington, and a tipped ball get picked off by the Redskins. The Eagles are just killing themselves with all the mistakes, and the (seemingly) lack of any sort of fire to win this game.

3:35 - Suisham kicks a short field goal to make this a two score game (or a TD and 2 pt. conversion). 24-16 Redskins

3:41 - I hope Donovan McNabb buys Jason Avant a pizza after these two catches he just made. He has given the Eagles the spark they desperately needed.

3:45 - When Brian Westbrook went down, I thought that could be the season, but LeSean McCoy saved the season, he really brought some hard running to our offense that we really needed…. Speaking of tough running, Leonard Weaver runs it to the 2 yard line and then they run it with ….. Eldra Buckley?!

3:49 - Typical really stupid Andy Reid red zone call. Eldra Buckley, Eldra Buckley, play action incomplete to Celek. Well that shouldn’t have worked. Eldra Buckley tries again and gets in for a TD on 4th and goal.

3:52 - Gutsy call going for 2, but the shovel pass works, and McCoy is in! Tie game! 24-24!

4:09 - Great drive by Philly. Akers puts the Birds up by 3. Washington has a lot of time left so the Eagles can’t get too confident yet. 27-24 Eagles

4:15 - Moose Johnston says that was a roughing the passer penalty, and I disagree. I am not a fan of those penalties because they use a lot of point of view. I’ll take this win even though I’m not sure if we deserve it. That last drive was impressive and thank you Jason Avant for saving this game for us. We now keep a close race with the Cowboys and keep our wild card berth if the playoffs started today.

Thanks for joining us for this (oddly) thrilling game. NFC East games are usually pretty good and this one was no different.

It’s time for another week of predictions here on BlitzNation, and we’ve got some exciting games on tap for this week’s picks. Just a note, this week’s predictions will be a little abbreviated, as some of our fellow BlitzNation bloggers are away for the Thanksgiving weekend. 5 or 6 weeks ago, one might have written off the Eagles as pretenders in a conference full of quality teams vying for a playoff spot. But we all should know that in only 5 or 6 weeks, a team can go from completely and utterly lost to the top of the pack (unless, of course, we’re talking about the Rams…sorry St. Louis fans). Consistency remains a bit of a problem for the Eagles, on both offense and defense, but they seemed quite balanced last week in a 24-20 win over the Chicago Bears. Philadelphia’s opponent this week comes in the form of the lowly Washington Redskins, who have crumbled to what many are calling one of the league’s worst franchises. Sure, their season record (3-7) is better than a few teams, but it is obviously still horrible, and their front office has been bashed and criticized on countless occasions this year. It would seem that Week 12 will be one of the easiest games of the year for the Eagles, but once again, they need not look over the Redskins, underestimate them, and lose what should be a definite victory, for the season is in full swing, and the postseason picture is beginning to shape up.

Another NFL Sunday is about to get underway, and the first game on our live blog schedule today is the Washington Redskins traveling to Philly to take on the Eagles. Last time these two teams met, well, it was pretty much no contest. But the Redskins have gotten better, and should at least challenge the Eagles a little bit today. More »
