The week leading up to the Super Bowl is a lot like the week leading up to Christmas (for you Christians out there like me). It is the culmination of 11 months of thinking about football. Beginning in March at the Scouting Combine through the draft and Free Agency, and let’s not forget the grueling Training Camp and finally (FINALLY) the season starts. It all leads up to the Super Bowl. I can finally say after years of being disappointed that I don’t care who wins. The NFL has been trying for years to sell the importance of an exhibition all-star game to its players from a marketing standpoint, yet now that the AFC quarterback roster consists of Matt Schaub of the Houston Texans, David Garrard of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Vince Young of the Tennessee Titans, it doesn’t appear they are buying in; at all. With the withdrawals of both Philip Rivers of the San Diego Chargers and Tom Brady from the New England Patriots shortly after their respective teams were eliminated from the postseason and Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts having an obvious schedule confliction, the Pro Bowl has become more of a 2nd team event. The NFL is home to two Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli. Unfortunately, one of the Manning brothers had to sit at home while the NFL playoffs were progressing. Eli Manning is the brother on the outside of the playoff picture, which means that Peyton is the last chance for the Manning family. In order for the Manning family to once again hoist the Lombardi trophy, Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts will have to win their next, and final game against the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV. Until watching the near surgical dismantling of the league’s number one defense in the New York Jets on Sunday by Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts with their two greatest weapons wideout Reggie Wayne and tight end Dallas Clark rendered virtually non-existent, it would have been a no-brainer to say that the New Orleans Saints have more offensive weapons than the Colts. However, after the performance turned in by the tandem of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, it would be wise to rethink that automatic response and conduct some more thorough examination of the offenses as a whole. After Sunday’s predictable (by anyone but me) results, both number one seeds have advance to super Sunday in Miami. For the first time since 1993 when the Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys dynasties ruled the NFL landscape, February 7th’s collision will feature the two teams with the best regular season records from their respective conferences in the big game. It’s almost time for the AFC Championship to get underway in Indianapolis, and it’s a chance for the Indianapolis Colts to get revenge on the New York Jets for ruining their perfect season. But, this one is about more than revenge. It’s about a spot in the Super Bowl, and you can bet that both teams will bring their absolute best today at Lucas Oil Stadium. More »


Championship Sunday has finally arrived, and although we haven’t had that many close games so far in this year’s playoffs, you can expect that both of these games today will come right down to the wire.
